Our purpose

You deserve care.
At your own pace.

BE Still is being developed to help people affected by abuse find support information and space for reflection, with a focus on Eswatini and South Africa.

You do not need to tell your story here to explore your options. Start with the information that feels useful to you today.

BE Still provides information. It is not an emergency response service, counselling service or substitute for professional care.

Find support

You do not have to work
everything out alone.

If you need urgent help, contact the appropriate service below when it is safe to do so. Choose the country where you need help. Unsure whether what you are experiencing is abuse? Short and toll-free numbers are intended for use within the country listed.

Something incorrect or out of date? Report outdated directory information. Please include the country and service name, without sharing anyone's personal story or sensitive details. This inbox is for directory feedback, not urgent assistance.

Understanding your experience

Is this abuse?

You do not need to find the right label before asking for support. Abuse can happen without visible injuries. It is not your fault.

Explore support options →

Abuse can involve threats, harm or behaviour used to control another person. The examples below are not a checklist or a diagnosis.

Emotional abuse and controlling behaviour

Humiliation, intimidation, threats, or stopping you from seeing people you trust can be warning signs.

Financial abuse

Controlling your access to money, preventing you from working, or pressuring you into debt can limit your independence.

Physical abuse

Hitting, pushing, restraining or using physical force to frighten or hurt you are forms of abuse.

Sexual abuse

Sexual contact without freely given consent, including pressure or force, is abuse. Being in a relationship does not remove your right to say no.

Digital abuse

Using technology to monitor, threaten, harass or control you, including sharing intimate images without consent, can be abuse.

If any of this feels familiar, you can speak with a support service when it feels safe. You do not have to make a decision about your relationship today.

Further reading: Types of abuse — The National Domestic Violence Hotline and Recognising domestic abuse — Women's Aid. These organisations are based in the US and UK; use the country directory above for local contacts. Reviewed against these sources on 1 November 2026; specialist local review is still pending.

Read & reflect

A starting point,
not a set of rules.

You know your circumstances best. Choose what feels helpful, and leave the rest.

Finding someone to talk to

You do not have to share everything at once. If there is someone you trust, you might begin with: “I would like someone to listen. Is now a safe time to talk?”

If speaking to someone you know does not feel safe, explore the support contacts above.

Thinking about your next step

You can start with one question: “What would make today feel a little more manageable?” That may mean gathering information, asking for support or taking time before deciding.

For help planning around abuse, a support professional can discuss options that fit your situation. Avoid writing down personal plans on a device that someone else can access.

Browsing with your safety in mind

If you suspect your device or accounts are monitored, consider using a device the other person cannot access. Private browsing and quick-exit buttons cannot protect against every kind of monitoring.

Changing settings or deleting history may be noticeable. Choose steps that fit your circumstances.

Helping someone you care about

Listen without pressing for details. Ask what support they would welcome, respect their choices, and ask whether it is safe to call or message them before doing so.

You can offer to look through support options together. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local service.
